How to join a Minecraft server on Bedrock and mobile

Add a server on Bedrock for Windows, Android, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook or Fire, find the right port, and know what changes on Java servers through Geyser.

To join a server on Minecraft Bedrock Edition, press Play, open the Servers tab and choose Add server, then type a name, the server's address and its port, which is usually 19132, and save it. The server now sits in your list, and you join it by selecting it and pressing Play.

This works the same on Minecraft for Windows, Android, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook and Fire tablets. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch have no Add server button, so console players need the console guide instead. Looking for a server first? The Bedrock server list only shows servers whose Bedrock port answered our pinger recently.

Which servers you can join from Bedrock

Two kinds of server accept Bedrock players:

  • Bedrock-native servers. They run Mojang's Bedrock Dedicated Server or community software built for Bedrock. Java players cannot join them.
  • Java servers running Geyser. Geyser translates between the two editions as you play, and its companion Floodgate lets you in with your Microsoft account, no Java copy needed. These are the servers people call crossplay.

On ServerList, every listing that accepts Bedrock today also has a Java address, so in practice joining from Bedrock here means joining a Java server through Geyser. A listing that accepts Bedrock shows a second field in its join panel with the Bedrock address and port, and the crossplay list collects them.

Saying "Bedrock supported" and actually answering on Bedrock are two different things, so our pinger checks the Bedrock port of every listing separately from its Java port. In the 30 days to 17 October 2026, 97 listings with a Bedrock address answered our pings at least once, and 74 of them also answered on the Bedrock port. The other 23 never did. Right now 59 of 136 answer on Bedrock:

  • Bedrock answersPublishes a Bedrock address that answered our Bedrock ping7290% of players
  • Bedrock silentPublishes a Bedrock address that never answered213% of players

Of 129 servers that were playable, 72 also answered on Bedrock and 21 publish a Bedrock address that never answered.

Add a server on Windows, phone or tablet

  1. Open Minecraft and sign in with your Microsoft account if the main screen offers Sign In. The account is free.
  2. Press Play.
  3. Open the Servers tab.
  4. Choose Add server. In the current version it sits at the top of the tab. The 26.60 previews move it to the bottom, so after that update, scroll down if you do not see it.
  5. Server name: anything you like, it is only a label.
  6. Server address: the host name or IP, for example play.example.net.
  7. Port: the Bedrock port the server publishes, usually 19132.
  8. Choose Add server to save it, or Add and play to save it and join at once. Next time, select the server in your list and press Play.

Here are three crossplay servers that are playable and answering on Bedrock right now:

The address box and the port box

Bedrock splits the address into two boxes, and the most common mistake is to stuff both into the first one. If you paste something that ends in :19132, delete the colon and the number from the address box and type the number into Port instead. No http://, no spaces.

Java players can type a bare address because Java looks up a DNS record that points to the right port. Bedrock does not do that lookup, so the port gets a box of its own.

Copy the Bedrock field, not the Java one. Many servers use the same host name for both, but not all: on 18 October 2026, 16 of the 136 listings with a Bedrock address on our list used a different host for Bedrock than for Java.

Port 19132 and when it is different

19132 is Bedrock's default port, and most servers keep it. Right now 90 of the 136 listings with a Bedrock address use it (90 of 136 on 18 October 2026). The rest use a port their host assigned, often the same number as their Java port (28 of those 46 on the same day). Those servers have to change their Bedrock setup for Bedrock 26.60, so if a saved server stops working after that update, copy the address and port from the listing again. Type exactly what the listing says. A wrong port fails the same way as a server that is down, usually with "Unable to connect to world".

Joining a Java server through Geyser

Once you are in, you are playing on a Java server. Geyser rewrites everything the server sends into something your Bedrock game understands, and the other way round, while the world itself runs on Java rules. Most of the time you will not notice. Sometimes you will.

Why your name starts with a dot or a star

Floodgate adds a prefix to Bedrock names so they can never clash with a Java player of the same name. The default is a dot, and owners can change it, so some servers use a star or something else. Spaces become underscores by default, so a gamertag like Sunny Fox becomes .Sunny_Fox.

Use that exact name, prefix and underscores included, whenever a server asks for your username: votes on server lists, store purchases, whitelist applications, /msg. A vote for "Sunny Fox" will not reach .Sunny_Fox. How server voting works has more on getting vote rewards with a Bedrock name.

Also own Java Edition? GeyserMC runs a free account linking service. Join link.geysermc.org on one edition and type /linkaccount to get a code, then join on the other edition and type /linkaccount followed by that code. Afterwards, servers that allow linking treat you as your Java account. Your Bedrock inventory on those servers is not available while the link is active, so put your items in a chest first.

What feels different

  • Menus. Chest-style menus still open as chests. Some plugins show Bedrock players a native form instead, a simple list of buttons, which is easier on a touch screen.
  • Combat. Unless a server switches it off, Java combat has the attack cooldown that came in with Java 1.9, where hitting at the right moment matters. Bedrock has no cooldown bar of its own, and Geyser can show one on screen. Expect fights against Java players with a mouse to feel uneven.
  • Redstone and farms. They follow Java rules because the server is Java. A piston that pushes a chest on Bedrock will not push it here, and some Bedrock farm designs simply do not work.
  • Items and textures. Java resource packs do not load on Bedrock. Custom items and models may show up as plain vanilla items unless the owner set up Bedrock versions of them.
  • Chat and commands. Clickable links in chat do not work, and neither does anything that relies on tab completion, which some plugin commands do. The Geyser limitations page keeps the full list.

Version matching on Bedrock

Bedrock updates itself through the app store, so you are almost always on the newest version, and the server has to keep up with you. Geyser accepts several Bedrock versions at once. On 18 October 2026 the current build accepted Bedrock 26.30 to 26.52 alongside Java 26.3.

Most servers keep up. Right now 53 of the 59 servers answering on Bedrock report a version from the newest family, 26.5x. At 00:36 UTC on 18 October 2026 that was 53 of 59.

When versions do not match:

  • Outdated server means your game is newer than the server supports. You cannot easily go back on a phone, so wait for the server to update Geyser, usually announced on its Discord.
  • Outdated client means your app is behind. Update Minecraft in your app store.
  • Preview and beta versions of Bedrock are ahead of the release and most servers do not accept them. Play servers on the regular app.

Bedrock 26.60, planned for 27 October 2026, also changes how the game connects to servers. A Geyser server has to update and switch to the new method, and one that has not cannot be joined from 26.60 on, even while Java players still get in. If a server stops working right after that update, the fix is on the owner's side. On some servers the new method makes Bedrock ask, on your first join, whether you trust the server. That is normal when you copied the address from the listing.

Do not compare your version number with a Java friend's. The two editions number their releases differently, and Bedrock 26.50 is the same drop as Java 26.3.

Chromebook and Fire tablets

The Minecraft app from Google Play on a Chromebook is Bedrock Edition. Everything above applies, including the Servers tab and the port box, and it joins Bedrock and Geyser servers, not plain Java ones. A keyboard makes typing addresses easier than on a phone.

On Amazon Fire tablets, Minecraft from the Amazon Appstore is also Bedrock with the same menus. If an older tablet cannot install the current update, it falls behind the versions servers accept, and you will see an outdated client message even though nothing else is wrong.

When the join button stays grey or the connection fails

  • Not signed in. Sign in with a Microsoft account from the main screen. Without it, almost every server turns you away.
  • Multiplayer blocked on the account. Child accounts need a parent to allow multiplayer in Microsoft family settings. Minecraft servers and kids walks through the switches.
  • The server is down. Check the server page on ServerList, which shows if the Bedrock port answered recently, or test the address with our server status tool.
  • Wrong address or port. Copy the Bedrock field again and check the port box.

"Unable to connect to world" and every other Bedrock message are explained in Can't connect to a Minecraft server?.

FAQ

Can I join Java servers on Bedrock?

Yes, but only the ones that run Geyser and publish a Bedrock address and port. A plain Java server without Geyser has no way to talk to your game. Can Java and Bedrock players play together? explains how crossplay servers work.

Do I need a Microsoft account?

For nearly every server, yes. Servers use it to check who you are, and Geyser servers with Floodgate depend on it to let you in without a Java account. Creating one is free.

Is multiplayer free on phones?

Yes. On Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Chromebook and Fire tablets you need no subscription to play on servers. Realms, Mojang's private server service, costs extra. Consoles are different: they need the console maker's online subscription, as joining servers on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch explains.
