Vanilla servers keep Minecraft as Mojang made it. Pure vanilla adds nothing at all, semi-vanilla adds light quality of life plugins without changing core mechanics, so farms, redstone and mob behaviour work exactly as they do in single player. Technical players often prefer vanilla servers because the farms they design behave the same way there.
Check whether the server is pure or semi-vanilla, how griefing is handled, whether technical mechanics like duping are kept, and whether the world is ever reset.
Right now 169 players are on the 13 vanilla servers that answer our pings, out of 23 listed. Over the last four weeks, the busiest hour was around 14:00 UTC. Measured at 23:49 UTC.

How to choose vanilla servers
- 01
Decide between pure and semi-vanilla. Semi-vanilla usually adds claims, homes or a sleep vote.
- 02
Check how griefing is handled: rollbacks, claims or nothing at all.
- 03
Ask whether technical mechanics, such as TNT duping, are kept for farms.
- 04
Find out whether the world resets, many vanilla servers keep one world for years.
Questions
Questions about vanilla servers
What does semi-vanilla mean?
Semi-vanilla servers keep the game's mechanics unchanged but add small plugins for quality of life, such as land claims, /home or a sleep vote.
Are there pure vanilla servers with no plugins?
Yes, though they are rarer. They run the official server software or a version that only fixes performance, with no gameplay plugins at all.
Do vanilla servers allow griefing?
Most do not. They forbid griefing in the rules and use logs and rollbacks to repair damage, even if they have no land claims.
How many vanilla servers are online right now?
13 of the 23 vanilla servers we list answered our last ping at 23:49 UTC with an open world. Together they had 169 players online. 15 of them were playable at least once in the last 7 days.
