Towny servers are about founding towns, claiming land and joining nations on a shared map. Instead of raiding, you compete through the economy, diplomacy and sometimes organised wars, with a plot system that lets mayors sell or rent land to their residents.
Check the map, a real world earth map or a generated one, town costs and daily upkeep, the war system and how the economy works. The Towny guide covers towns, nations and the commands you need.
Right now 697 players are on the 6 Towny servers that answer our pings, out of 12 listed. Over the last four weeks, the busiest hour was around 12:00 UTC. Measured at 23:24 UTC.

How to choose Towny servers
- 01
Check the map type. Earth maps let you settle real places, generated maps feel more like classic survival.
- 02
Ask about town costs and daily upkeep so your town does not fall into ruin while you are away.
- 03
Read the war rules. Some Towny servers are peaceful, others run scheduled wars between nations.
- 04
Look at the economy: jobs, shops and how money enters the game.
Questions
Questions about Towny servers
How do you start a town in Towny?
Gather the money the server asks for, then stand where you want your town and type /town new followed by a name. The first chunk becomes your home block, and you claim more land with /town claim.
What is the difference between Towny and factions?
Towny protects land fully, so you cannot be raided, and towns grow through economy and politics. Factions is built around raiding: claims depend on power, and the goal is to break into other bases.
Do Towny servers reset?
Many Towny servers run the same map for years, which is why towns get so detailed. Some reset with each new season or map, so ask before you invest months in a city.
