RPG servers add classes, quests, custom mobs and dungeons through plugins, often with a resource pack instead of mods. You level a character, pick up quests from NPCs and push into harder zones, closer to an MMO than to vanilla survival.
Check how deep the content goes, whether a resource pack is required and whether your progress survives resets. For skill based RPG on survival servers, see the mcMMO guide.
Right now 1,040 players are on the 6 RPG servers that answer our pings, out of 10 listed. Over the last four weeks, the busiest hour was around 17:00 UTC. Measured at 23:49 UTC.
